A Healthier Digital Life for the Whole Family

In today’s tech-filled world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by screens, scrolling, and safety concerns—especially when it comes to our children. Jingle & Slow the Scroll invites families to pause, reflect, and rediscover the value of presence over pixels.

Together, let’s explore practical ways to build healthier screen habits, strengthen family connection, and make digital wellness part of everyday life.

Simple Tips to Slow the Scroll

  • Set clear, consistent expectations for screen use.

  • Create screen-free zones at mealtimes and bedtime.

  • Offer engaging, non-digital alternatives like art, reading, or outdoor play.

  • Avoid using screen time as a reward or punishment.

  • Model healthy tech habits—children learn most by watching us.

  • Keep communication open and supportive rather than restrictive.

Is Your Family Living a Healthy Digital Life?

Take a few moments to reflect on how technology shows up in your home.

Start with you:

  • Do you struggle to fall or stay asleep?

  • Are you using screens just before bed?

  • Do you feel irritable or distracted after time online?

  • Do you find yourself preoccupied with your digital image?

Then, consider your kids:

  • Are they having trouble sleeping or focusing?

  • Do they become upset when screens are removed?

  • Have they lost interest in outdoor play or in-person friendships?

  • Are they more withdrawn or less active than before?

If these questions sound familiar, you’re not alone. It may be time to create new, gentle boundaries around technology use—and Lumera Healthcare is here to help you find balance that fits your family’s needs.

What’s Appropriate Screen Time?

According to the WellMind Champions Workshop, balance looks different for every age:

  • Under 18 months – Avoid screen time, except for video chatting.

  • 18 to 24 months – Choose high-quality programs and watch together; avoid interactive screen time.

  • 2 to 5 years – Limit to one hour per day of high-quality, co-viewed programming.

  • 6 to 12 years – Less than 90 minutes per day; delay solo interactive screen time when possible.

  • 12 to 18 years – Use parental controls and monitor devices regularly for online safety.
