Slow the Scroll

Impacts of Slowing the Scroll

We aren’t here to tell you that technology is the enemy. We know it’s how our kids connect, learn, and grow. But a groundbreaking new study has confirmed what many of us have felt in our hearts: constant connection can sometimes dim our natural glow.

Researchers recently found that simply “slowing the scroll” by pausing mobile internet for just two weeks led to:

  • Mental health boosts that actually outperformed traditional antidepressants.
  • A “younger” brain, with focus and attention levels improving as much as being 10 years younger.
  • Greater joy, with significant increases in life satisfaction and positive mood.

We’re not asking your child to disappear from the digital world—we’re inviting them to rediscover the real one.

Welcome to the Digital Detox Group for Teens

A Supportive Space for Middle & High Schoolers

Our Slow the Scroll group is a lighthearted, 8-week journey designed to help adolescents (ages 11-18) move away from “autopilot scrolling” and toward intentional living. We focus on kindness, respect for boundaries, and the belief that everyone has the ability to shine a little brighter.

How We Help Them Shine

We don’t just “block the apps”—we replace the scroll with soul-filling experiences:

  • The Science of “The Pause”: We teach kids how to identify that “itch” to scroll and transform it into a moment of reflection or movement.

  • Better than a Filter: We help teens build a “coping toolkit” that improves mental health naturally, often seeing results that exceed traditional medication alone.

  • Focus & Clarity: We help students regain the “sustained attention” they need for school, sports, and hobbies.

A Note to Parents: We’re in This Together

We know the “screen time talk” can be exhausting. Our approach is judgment-free. We work with you and your child to create a “Digital Wellness Agreement” that respects your family’s boundaries while giving your teen the space they need to breathe and grow.

The Results We Aim For:

  • Brighter Moods: Less anxiety, more smiles.

  • Sharper Focus: Better engagement at school and home.

  • Stronger Ties: More face-to-face connection and less digital “avoidance.”

Other groups that may be a good fit for your child:
  • Children’s Grief Group is for any child struggling with their emotions after a loss such as abandonment, incarceration, deportation, death, etc.
  • Teen Intensive Outpatient Program for those struggling with addiction, depression and severe anxiety. This is a good step-down level of care for those who have been in an inpatient facility.

Insurance We Accept:

Lumera accepts Medicaid, Medicare, most major commercial insurance plans, and self-pay.

We accept Anthem, United Healthcare, Humana, Cigna, Aetna, and Ambetter Health, among others. Call (270) 310-9200 to verify your specific coverage before your first appointment.
